EDLD 5301 - Week One Assignment, Part 3

I have learned that action research is a way to delve into questions one may have regarding their school or field of practice. By investigating these questions through the collection and analysis of data, in addition to looking at any relevant readings, the researcher gains greater insight. They can then apply this insight to changes in their practice or school, as well as communicate their finding to others within their field or school. This may also lead to more questions, and more inquiry (Dana, 2009, pp. 2-3).

As an educator I would use action research in the professional learning communities (PLCs) and leadership teams that exist within my school. Action research can be used by the PLCs to inquire about issues affecting the group within their classrooms or within the school. The group can work collaboratively to answer their question through the action research process. This would allow for a more thorough investigation, hopefully leading to a greater understanding of the issues and potential solutions. The action research process can also be used by leadership teams. They can use action research to help them make more informed decisions in regard to strategic planning, policy and program development, and decision making within the school community. In the end the goal is to improve our schools and increase student learning.

Educational leaders can use blogs in many different ways. Blogs can be used as a journal. As the user posts their thoughts, they can revisit their posts and gain greater insights over time (Dana, 2009, pp. 87-88). Blogs can also be used to collaborate and communicate with others regardless of distance (Dana, 2009, p. 150). In addition, the comment feature allows the user to receive feed back on their thoughts and ideas (Dana, 2009, p. 87).

  2. I think that your idea to use action research in your school’s professional learning communities is a fantastic idea. To encourage a professional learning community to select a topic of their own interest sends out a positive message to the entire staff. I think it would also help create a great feeling of pride and ownership on any campus.

Also, please forgive my deleted comment post. I had a typo and I am still learning how to post comments on blogs. Thank you for your patience.
